So I had this cute little idea that I was going to regularly update an ad industry-centric blog during my summer internship here at McCann.
Except it turns out that having a "real job" means giving up on cute little ideas that do not involve where to spend your thirty minute lunch break or how to get Work Crush to make eye contact with you. And even those ideas are limited by the amount of actual work you are required to focus on.
But I promise I'm going to try harder, honest.
I've been sticking pens in my ears, going totally insane over learning new technologies for the past couple of days. McCann recently won all of Verizon, not just the wireless network. So they've hired boocoodles of freelancers and are schlepping off the extra stuff on the interns. Not that I'm complaining - I've never been so hip to fiber optic technology before. I had to consult my teenaged brother on the 'awesome' factor of Fios versus normal cable. Apparently, according to Matthew, Verizon Fios "basically kills all the other companies because it's so much more hardcore", but I don't think this is going to be included in the pitch. Still. Thanks younger brothers everywhere. You sell it.
In non-mccann related activities, I've recently started babysitting in the evenings for the two-year-old child of a supermodel from Germany. She used to just do high fashion runway stuff, but now that she's getting on in years (the old, old age of twenty-eight) she mostly does Gap ads. I usually get to her apartment covered in the stench of Eau'de'Cubicle and wearing my subway-at-rush-hour grimace. She, of course, looks like she just walked off the airbrushed pages of an article outlining how to look like you just walked off an airbrushed page. In conclusion, my self-esteem has been reduced to seventh grade girlism, but I'm making good money trying to read The Cat in The Hat in German to a child who refuses to eat anything but strawberries.
